Utility metering is used to charge guests for electricity and other utilities. Site meters must be activated before a reading can be entered and a charge added to an invoice.
1. Go to Utility Metering
In the primary navigation, select Utility Metering.
User permission is required to access Utility Metering. If the option is not available in the primary navigation, check user permissions in User Management.
2. Add a Utility Tax (skip if not applicable)
Click Utility Taxes in the secondary navigation.
Click Add Utility Tax.
Enter a name in the Utility Tax Name field.
Enter a value in the Tax Rate field and select the value type (%/$).
Select a Financial Account from the list.
3. To Add a Utility Fee (skip if not applicable)
Click Utility Fees in the secondary navigation.
Click Add Utility Fee.
Enter a name in the Utility Fee Name field.
Enter a value in the Fee Rate field and select the value type (%/$).
Select a Financial Account from the list.
If Utility Taxes apply to the fee, check the applicable box.
Click the Add Fee button.
4. Add a Utility Type
Click Add Utility Type.
Enter a name in the Utility Name field.
Enter a name in the Unit of Measurement field.
Enter a dollar and cents amount in the Default Rate (per unit) field.
Select a Financial Account from the list.
If Utility Fees or Utility Taxes apply to the rate, check the applicable boxes.
Click the Add Utility button.
5. Activate a Site Meter
Click Utility Meters from the secondary navigation.
Click on a site in the site meter list.
Click Edit Meter Setup and then check Active and enter the rollover value of the physical meter on the site.
What is a rollover value?
A rollover value is the maximum reading value a utility meter can reach before rolling over to zero. To determine this value, count the number of digits on the reading dial of the utility meter and enter the number of digits as 9’s in the Rollover Value field. If the meter is digital, enter a value the meter will never reach in its lifetime.
